Dear Prospective Dietetic Intern:

Thank you for your interest in the Dietetic Internship at New Mexico State University. Our program combines the dietetic internship with a graduate program leading to a Master of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences. Upon successful completion of the combined master's degree + dietetic internship, the student is eligible to take the national exam to become a registered dietitian/nutritionist (RD/RDN). Per the Commission on Dietetic Registration, "Beginning January 1, 2024, a graduate degree will be the minimum degree requirement for those seeking to become eligible for the registration examination for dietitians."

Our combined master's degree + dietetic internship program includes a proprietary virtual reality (VR) dietetics curriculum, including a VR NMSU campus and our very own VR Dietetics Simulation Lab (Fall 2022).

Our program provides graduate-level coursework and a minimum of 1,000 hours of supervised practice in clinical dietetics, community nutrition and food service management fields.

Additionally, the dietetic interns accepted into this program will be given the unique opportunity to work with NMSU Cooperative Extension Service professionals at the county and state level to provide community nutrition programming and develop materials that can be used by the Cooperative Extension Service on a statewide basis. Experiences include community needs assessments, program planning, and program delivery.
